Etymology edit
Borrowed from Classical Persian ترکیه (turkiya). Displaced in the 20th century by تُرْکِی (turkī) used as a phono-semantic matching of English Turkey. Regaining usage in the 21st century under the influence of Turkish Türkiye, of same origin (see Usage notes).

Usage notes edit
ترکی (turkī) is the most common way to refer to the Republic of Turkey. However, the Government of Pakistan has started using ترکیہ (turkiyah) more frequently upon the change of the official English name to the Republic of Türkiye, with an alternative spelling of ترکیے (turkīye).
