لَا بَأْسَ • (lā baʔsa)

1. (with بِ (bi)) it is not a problem, it is all right, it can't hurt

   لَا بَأْسَ بِبَعْضِ ٱلضَّحِكِ أَحْيَانًا.

   lā baʔsa bibaʕḍi ḍ-ḍaḥiki ʔaḥyānan.

   It can’t hurt to laugh sometimes.

2. (with بِ + personal suffix) a rather large (number of), quite a few

   عَدَدٌ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ يُعَانُونَ مِنْ مَشَاكِلَ نَفْسِيَّةٍ.

   ʕadadun lā baʔsa bihi mina n-nāsi yuʕānūna min mašākila nafsiyyatin.

   Quite a large number of people suffer from psychological problems.

Interjection

لَا بَأْسَ • (lā baʔsa)

1. no problem

   هَل يُمْكِنُنِي ٱلتَّدْخِينُ؟ – لَا بَأْسَ.

   hal yumkinunī t-tadḵīnu? – lā baʔsa.

   May I smoke? – No problem.

2. (perhaps regional) Used as a wish for health and well-being.

   لَا بَأْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ!

   lā baʔsa ʕalaykum!
