Assyrian Neo-Aramaic edit

Etymology edit

From Aramaic גַרבְּיָא (garbəyā), from Akkadian gallābu šamê (gallābu šamê, North wind, literally Barber of the sky), in Mesopotamian contexts, the reference is usually to “northwest”, i.e., upriver, therefore related to ܓܲܠܵܒ݂ܵܐ (gallāḇā, dagger) and ܫܡܲܝܵܐ (šmayyā, sky).
