Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘋𑘭 (aisa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀏𑀈𑀲 (eīsa), from Sanskrit ईदृश (īdṛśa). Cognate with Konkani अशें (aśẽ), Hindi ऐसा (aisā).
