Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit दाढिआ (dāḍhiā), from Sanskrit दाढिका (dāḍhikā, “beard”). Cognate with Marathi दाढी (dāḍhī), Punjabi ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ (dāṛhī). Equivalent to दाढ़ (dāṛh, “tusk; molar tooth”) +‎ -ई (-ī).
