Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀤 (muda) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit मृत (mṛtá), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mr̥tás, from Proto-Indo-European *mr̥tós, from *mer- (“to die”). Doublet of मुरदा (murdā) and मृत (mŕt). Cognate with Gujarati મૂઉં (mūũ), Kachchi મુઓ (muo), Marathi मेले (mele).
