Inherited from Early Assamese আণ্ট্ (aṇṭ), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆 (*aṭṭ). Cognate to Punjabi ਅੱਟਣਾ (aṭṭaṇā), Nepali अटाउनु (aṭāunu), Hindi अँटना (ãṭnā).
