Borrowed from Classical Persian قلعه (qal'a), from Arabic قَلْعَة (qalʕa). Cognate with Hindi क़िला (qilā), Marathi किल्ला (killā), Punjabi ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (kilhā).
