Inherited from Sanskrit ঘটা (ghaṭā, collection, mass). Cognate with Hindi घरिया (ghariyā, wasp's nest), Nepali घार (ghār, beehive), घरि (ghari, bunch of bananas), Marathi घड (ghaḍ, bunch, testicles).
