Inherited from Sanskrit ঘটা (ghaṭā, “collection, mass”). Cognate with Hindi घरिया (ghariyā, “wasp's nest”), Nepali घार (ghār, “beehive”), घरि (ghari, “bunch of bananas”), Marathi घड (ghaḍ, “bunch, testicles”).
