From Portuguese dinamarquês, formed from Portuguese Dinamarca, from Danish Danmark, from Old Norse danir, from Proto-Germanic *daniz (“a Dane”), which is possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰenh₂- (“run, flow”) or from the same root as den (i.e. "lowland").
