Learned borrowing from Sanskrit दिवा (divā, “by day”), instrumental singular of दिव (diva, “day; (diurnal) sky”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *diwám, from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *dyew- (“sky; bright”).
