Borrowed from Classical Persian مولانا (mawlānā), from Arabic مَوْلَانَا (mawlānā, literally our lord), from مَوْلَى (mawlā, lord) +‎ ـنَا (-nā, our). Cognate with Hindustani مولانا (molānā) / मौलाना (maulānā).
