Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀁𑀲 (kaṃsa), from Sanskrit कंस (kaṃsa, metal vessel), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kansás (metal). Cognate with Assamese কাঁহ (kãh) and Odia କଂଶ (kôṁśô).
