Inherited from Old Gujarati पीहर (pīhara), from Gurjar Apabhramsa पिउहर (piuhara), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀺𑀉𑀳𑀭 (piuhara), from Sanskrit पितृगृह (pitṛgṛha), a compound of पितृ (pitṛ, “father”) + गृह (gṛha, “house”). Cognate with Hindi and Marwari पीहर (pīhar).
