Inherited from Prakrit 𑀨𑀺𑀭𑀇 (phiraï), from Sanskrit *फिरति (phirati). Cognate with Marathi फिरणे (phirṇe), Hindi फिरना (phirnā), Punjabi ਫਿਰਨਾ (phirnā) / پھِرنا (phirnā), and Bengali ফেরা (phera).
