Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀺𑀭𑀇 (phiraï), from Sanskrit *‍फिरति (‍phirati). Cognate with Gujarati ફરવું (pharvũ), Hindi फिरना (phirnā), Punjabi ਫਿਰਨਾ (phirnā) / پھِرنا (phirnā), and Bengali ফেরা (phera).
