Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *zaːwᴬ⁴ (“twenty”) (Jonsson, 1991). Cognate with Thai ซาว (saao), Northern Thai ᨪᩣ᩠ᩅ, Lao ຊາວ (sāo), Lü ᦌᦱᧁ (saaw), Shan သၢဝ်း (sáao), Tai Nüa ᥔᥣᥝᥰ (säaw), Tai Laing ꩬၢဝ်း, Aiton ꩬွ် (saw), Phake ꩬွ် (saw), Ahom 𑜏𑜧 (saw).
