Etymology edit
From ἐκ- (ek-, “thoroughly, completely”) + λειτουργέω (leitourgéō, “perform public service”); the ῃ (ēi, eta with iota subscript) spelling echoes the verb’s root in λήϊτον (lḗïton, “town-hall, council-chamber”).
