From the neuter form of ὄβρυζος (óbruzos, “pure (esp. of gold)”, adj), most likely from the term ὄβρυζον χρυσίον (óbruzon khrusíon, “pure piece of gold”). See ὄβρυζα (óbruza) for further etymology.
