From 蚊帳 (kaya, mosquito net, jukujikun (熟字訓)) +‎ 吊り (tsuri, stem of 吊る (tsuru, to hang)) +‎ (kusa, grass), from the phrase 蚊帳を吊る (kaya o tsuru, to hang a mosquito net), from a children's game using the stems of this grass.
