| trad. | 鑌鐵 | |
Noun
镔铁 (simplified, Pinyin bīntiě, traditional 鑌鐵)
- (archaic) A type of refined iron, which was known for its hardness. It was often used in the making of sword blades.
Usage notes
镔铁 was probably a type of carbon steel. Some have claimed that 镔铁 was actually Damascus steel (Wootz steel), however there is insufficient archaeological evidence to support this.
