Etymology

건너 (geonneo-, to cross)+ (-eo, infinitive suffix) + 뛰다 (ttwida, to jump).

First attested in the Geumganggyeong samgahae (金剛經三家解 / 금강경삼가해), 1482, as Middle Korean 걷나ᄠᅱ다 (Yale: ketna-ptwuyta).
