머리카락
Korean edit
Etymology edit
Equivalent to 머리 (meori, “head”) + 가락 (garak, “long slender thing”). First attested in the 17th century, where it was written as 머리카락 (melikhalak), 머리ᄏᆞ락 (melikholak). Reason for the aberrant aspiration in the second component is unclear.
Pronunciation edit
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [mʌ̹ɾikʰa̠ɾa̠k̚]
- Phonetic hangul: [머리카락]
