Inherited from Prakrit 𑀤𑀸𑀠𑀺𑀆 (dāḍhiā), from Sanskrit 𑘟𑘰𑘛𑘱𑘎𑘰 (dāḍhikā). Cognate with Old Punjabi ਦਾੜੀ / دَاڑِی (dāṛī /⁠dāṛhī⁠/), Old Hindi दाढ़ी (dāṛhī), Old Awadhi दाढ़ी (dāṛhī).
