Inherited from Early Assamese -অৰ পৰা (-oro pora) which is -অৰ (-oro, “genitive marker”) + পৰা (pora). পৰা (pora, “beyond, further, subsequent”) is from Sanskrit পৰ (para, “distant, further, other”). Cognate with Kamta -এৰ পাৰা (-er para), Hindi पर (par, “but, still”).
