Yoruba edit

Etymology edit

From àba (father) +‎ Ọ̀rị̀ṣà (Orisa (supreme sky deity)), literally Father Orisha, also see àbarị̀ṣà (rain). This perhaps suggest that the term "orisha" may originally come for a root for sky or the elements of the sky later associated with a supreme deity.

Pronunciation edit
