Etymology edit

1819 after Arabic عَدَن (ʕadan) used for this plant, although the type specimen has already been collected in 1763 by Forsskål – he called it Nerium obesum and used the Arabic name for Adenia.

A taxonomic genus within the family Apocynaceae – adenia, native to Africa and the Middle East.
