From Spanish Águila, from águila. Introduced through the Catálogo alfabético de apellidos , but was already adopted by several principalía families in Batangas.
The barangay is probably named after Fernando Águila, mayor of San Jose, Batangas from 1931 to 1937 and in 1941.
