Etymology edit

First attested as anning in 1475. Derived from a toponym derived from Old Dutch Ano (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ing- and a second toponym derived from a compound of nij (new) and hof (farmstead, homestead). The two toponyms are further suffixed with hoek (isolated place). Named after a pair of former farms.
