Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 佳美 (“excelling beauty”), a term which decomposes into 佳 (“excellent, beauty”) + 美 (“beauty”), to native Japanese word うるはしき (uruwashiki, “beauty”) thus denoting excelling beauty.
