New Latin, from Latin balsaminus, from Ancient Greek βαλσαμίνη (balsamínē, “a plant with an aromatic oil”), βάλσαμον (bálsamon, “balsam”), of Semitic origin (Hebrew בושם (“spice, perfume”)).
