Category talk:Idioms

Latest comment: 10 years ago by CodeCat in topic RFDO discussion: January–August 2014

I'm currently moving (English) entries marked "Category:Idioms" to "Category:English idioms". This has nothing to do with capitalization changes, it's just completing a standardization begun a while ago.

Note that it's still entirely possible to hand-insert [[Category:English idioms]], but the easier ways to do it are to tag with {{idiom}} or to use the {{idiomcat}} template to insert the right category link invisibly, depending on the local circumstances. -dmh 05:58, 10 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Have you tried the "next 200" link? \Mike 09:33, 18 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

the meaning of an idiom cannot be derived literally from the words. many of these are not idioms.— This unsigned comment was added by 129.100.220.212 (talk) at 21:02, 3 March 2008.

Frequency - thoughts?

edit

Anyone have ideas about regrouping these by frequency? Certainly an English language learner (the likely audience for this category page) would be most insterested in the 100 most common idioms, before plowing through hundreds of rare idioms, right? --Connel MacKenzie 18:52, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category:Idioms

Supposedly a topical category, seems to me that none of the content is topical, and should be (mostly already is) at Category:Idioms by language. What terms are there that related to idioms, apart from 'idiom' itself? Mglovesfun (talk) 16:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

These aren't words relating to idioms, these are idioms. Mglovesfun (talk) 16:52, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

These both fail per Wiktionary:Votes/2011-04/Lexical categories. --Mglovesfun (talk) 16:05, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tagged but not listed. Should be at Category:Idioms by language anyway, redirecting it to English idioms doesn't even make sense. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 03:40, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
