From Latin Aegyptus, from Ancient Greek Αἴγυπτος (Aíguptos), from Egyptian
(ḥwt-kꜣ-ptḥ, literally “the temple of the ka of Ptah”), referring to Ptah's temple in the important city of Memphis.
