Etymology edit

From Spanish Joló, spelled historically as Xoló with the initial most likely pronounced with the Early Modern Spanish /ʃ/ sound, from Tausug Sulug (Sulu), an older form of Sūg (Sulu), possibly from Tausug sulug, an older form of sūg (current).[1] Compare Maranao Solog (Sulu; Jolo).
