From Spanish Sulu/Sulú, from Tausug Sulug (“Sulu”), an older form of Sūg (“Sulu”), possibly from Tausug sulug, an older form of sūg (“current”).[1][2] Compare Maranao Solog, Malay Suluk, Hokkien 蘇祿/苏禄 (So͘-lo̍k).
