Romanian edit

Etymology edit

From *Vărlămaș + -anu, diminutive of Varlaam, from Greek Βαρλαάμ (Varlaám), itself likely borrowed from Georgian ბალაჰვარ (balahvar). First attested c. 8th century as Arabic بِلَوْهَر (bilawhar), perhaps ultimately from Sanskrit भगवान् (bhagavān).
