Oosterwierum
Dutch edit
Etymology edit
First attested as aesterwerum in 1319. Borrowed from West Frisian Easterwierrum, a compound of Old Frisian aester (“eastern”) and the dative plural form of weer (“artificial mound used for habitation”). The element easter was added to distinguish the settlement from Lutkewierum.
