Etymology edit
A derivative of *ade- (“to sleep”) + *-ma. Sammallahti (1988) reconstructs a separate root *alma. Aikio (2020) reconstructs a form *adma. Both Sammallahti and Aikio exclude the Mordvinic descendants.
