Etymology edit
From Proto-Germanic *lurtaz, from Proto-Indo-European *lerd- (“crooked”). Cognate with Greek λορδός (lordós, “bent backward”), Proto-Celtic *lordskākos (“lame-footed”),[1] and perhaps Old Norse lortr (“excrement, feces”).
