From Proto-Indo-European *strēl- (“arrow”), from Proto-Indo-European *ster-, *strē- (“strip, stripe, line, streak, stream, arrow”). Cognate with Lithuanian strėlė (“arrow, dart, jib”), Latvian strēle (“arrow, dart”) and Proto-Slavic *strěla (“arrow”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
