I saw a question regarding the bar over the "a" (ā) in the IPA transcription. I know it is not standard IPA, but I have a dilemma here. There are different theories about the way kamats was pronounced in Biblical Hebrew. It is likely that kamats reflects a Tiberian Hebrew ɔ that evolved from a further ancient aː, but I wouldn't like to commit to any specific theory. The "ā" symbol is often used by Semitic linguists and it is less compelling. Drork 07:24, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
