Who translated '其西有大山，天下至高者也。' as 'Laden with surrounding mountains, it is clearly the most supreme under heaven'? It sounds very poetic but it's devoid of meaning and accuracy. What it actually says is to the effect of: 'There are great mountains in the West of it [China], which are the tallest in the world.' It is an example of 也 behaving like a copula, but the translation is rubbish.
Etymology of the modern sense edit
