This character is not used in Japanese; it is simplified Chinese. -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 23:01, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- 䦉#Japanese -- this one too. Should I just go ahead and start deleting such bogus Japanese entries for simplified Chinese characters? This will clear out a lot of the single-character entries under Category:Japanese_terms_needing_attention. -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 23:11, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- If it's not Japanese why does it have an entry here: http://jisho.org/kanji/details/%E4%BC%B1 ? archaic maybe? (btw I think the simplified Chinese character is 你) Fugyoo 22:27, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely archaic -- more specifically, obsolete. :) As that linked page itself notes, Not a general use character; Not one of the 2500 most used kanji in newspapers. It's not even listed in Nelson's Modern Reader's Japanese-English Character Dictionary. Moreover, the Japanese readings are irregular and ancient; I'm more used to seeing なんじ for thou spelled using the character 汝. Moreover, I've never heard of しかり or のみ used to mean thou, and その for thou sounds very elliptical / poetical, making me think this character was used alternately for the words しかり (however), のみ (only}, and その (that) -- ancient kanji usage could be wildly different from modern usage, and was more variable.
- Any insight into 䦉? That jisho.org site doesn't seem to include this one. -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 04:15, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Can't find it in online dictionaries, except for the Japanese Wiktionary... maybe you could ask them? Fugyoo 11:32, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- JA WT doesn't have it either (maybe they've since deleted it?), and Weblio flat-out states it's not used in Japanese here, so I've removed the ==Japanese== section from the 䦉 entry. -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 20:29, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
