Talk:curse

I think in french it is "sort", but not quite sure :)

- it is actually more precise to say "mauvais sort" since "sort" can be positive.

Pls Add something to cover: " We are cursed by it's presence." This may reflect back on the use of "supernatural" in item 1.

Etymology

This etymology is quite dubious. By some, it is thought to be a derivative of a corruption of CROSS[2]; but the period in which it was first used rather contradicts that. Professor Skeat compares it with Old Irish CURSA(I)GIM[4] (I reprehend, censure, chastise); but at what point it was first used in Britain is not known. Andrew (talk) Andrew H. [0] means 'Absolutely not; [1] means 'Exceedingly unlikely'; [2] means 'Very dubious'; [3] means 'Questionable'; [4] means 'Possible'; [5] means 'Probable'; [6] means 'Likely'; [7] means 'Most Likely' or *Unattested; [8] means 'Attested'; [9] means 'Obvious' - only used for close matches within the same language or dialect, at linkable periods.
