Pejorative?

I noted that although this was an autonym/self-identifier TERFs chose after objecting to TERF, at least some of them have started objecting to this as itself being a slur, hence I added (with some amusement) that label. But I suspect it's a situation Equinox has previously warned might happen, where they claim to find something offensive without that necessarily being a sincere or accurate claim. Reminds me of the terms racialist or race realist as euphemistic replacements for racist or white supremacist. (In fact, it has been suggested that "sex realist" is an apt description of the ideology in question, as it maintains that gender identity is completely meaningless and only sex as legally assigned at birth counts.) Sure enough, outspoken white supremacists are widely loathed, but that's different from the way groups like Muslims are viewed negatively by a lot of people.

As for leftist, it may be used as a snarl world, I'm not sure, but it is also routinely used in a neutral sense and as self-designation, similar to socialist, communist and Marxist. What's noteworthy is the conflation of liberal and leftist on the right, even though at least economic liberals (less so social liberals) and leftists are sharply at odds. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 22:47, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Hot word?

I added another sense which goes back decades, but even the trans-related sense goes back to at least 2013 (tweets from then mentioning it: [1] [2] [3]), which raises the question of whether it's a "hot word/sense" or just one that isn't in readily searchable durable media. That's a tricky issue I've encountered with other words! (If the trans-related sense goes, the remaining sense would seem SOPpy, IMO. Perhaps should have {{&lit}} added to the end of it even now. I've seem some entries use {{&lit}} on the same line as actual definitional information.) PS even though I dislike the "neologism" label and we seem to have been trying to reduce or eliminate it, if were we to retain it, it would apply here... - -sche (discuss) 08:54, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
