Is it the proper formatting for entry with more than one =nouns= ? I thought Etymology goes first. Kipmaster 21:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Was there some decision at some point that mandated the absurd practice of passive-aggressively labelling the ordinary standard English spellings of English words in English as "alternative" versions of American words? Correctrix (talk) 08:24, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's not absurd nor passive-aggressive. If you ask the question in a reasonable, fair human way then I (as a native British speaker) will engage. Until then happy panicking. Equinox 11:14, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
It does feel odd that the "alternative spellings" always list all the countries where it's used, which tends to be everywhere except the US, if complete, while the one used in a single country is the treated as a standard. I presume it derives from Wikimedia Foundation being based in America and maybe a high percentage of users being American. But I'm unsure if it's an accepted rule for the project...
