Technical difference between dish and plate edit

What's the technical difference between dish and plate? A plate is always not-curved. So there is a "soup dish" but not a "soup plate"? "A serving dish" could be also "serving plate"? Thanks--Xan2 (talk) 09:13, 12 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

A dish covers various pieces for serving food, including plates, bowls, gravy boats, saucers, ramekins, and so on. A plate is none of those things. —Stephen (Talk) 10:05, 12 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
"A plate is none of those things". Do you mean "one of those things"? That is a plate is an specific dish. Thanks a lot,--Xan2 (talk) 17:44, 12 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Missing PUA slang sense edit

PUA Internet slang, probably not CFI-attestable: a "plate" is a romantic/sexual prospect. Suggests the image of spinning plates as a juggling performance, i.e. keeping several potential women on the go. Equinox 22:58, 2 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
