rarely ever: self-Contradictory Idiom edit

Garner's fourth edition recommends rarely if ever --Backinstadiums (talk) 12:24, 8 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is nothing wrong with rarely ever. Don't blindly trust a book. Equinox 14:36, 8 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Criticism has been levelled at (iii) rarely or ever (by confusion of ‘rarely if ever’ and ‘rarely or never’,), though illustrated by examples in the OED from 1692 onwards; and (iv) rarely ever , though illustrated by OED examples from 1679 onwards, and supported by a British and an American example in MWCDEU ( 2002) --Backinstadiums (talk) 18:52, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
