Pronunciation: I am a med school student and all the respirologists who have taught us pronounce it "tra-KEY-a". I've never heard this pronunciation before. Is it common elsewhere? I am from southwestern Ontario, Canada.

I believe that’s the Latin pronunciation. The English pronunciation is TRAY-key-a. —Stephen 00:07, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Definitely not a US pronunciation. Two dictionaries show it as a UK pronunciation. A cambridge dictionary does not show it as the first pronunciation. In Latin it was spelled "trachia". Modern spelling is more like the Greek which also seems to have the stress on the second syllable. DCDuring TALK 00:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
