Usage
This template generates a bracketed ellipsis for use in quotations where parts of the quotation are left out. Using the template helps to distinguish ellipses inserted by Wiktionary editors from those that appear in the texts quoted from.
The template adds a space before and after the ellipsis. Because of the space after the ellipsis, this template is not suitable if the ellipsis is immediately followed by a punctuation mark. In such cases, use {{nb...}} instead.
If the source itself contains an ellipsis, rather than use this template, replicate the ellipsis in the quotation with … and, if desired, annotate it with <!--sic--> or an appropriate comment.
Parameters
The template takes the following optional parameters:
|1=– any text specified as the first parameter in the template appears as a tooltip if a cursor is moved over the ellipsis. (Currently, this does not work well on mobile devices.)|otherforms=– if|otherforms=yesor|otherforms=1is specified, the template displays "and other forms" instead of an ellipsis. This may be used in the etymology sections of entries to indicate multiple forms of words in a tooltip.|text=– this replaces the ellipsis with the text specified using the parameter.|nospace=– to suppress the space before the opening bracket, specify|nospace=1or|nospace=yes. This may be desirable for some formatting purposes (see, for example,{{RQ:Johnson Rambler}}).|link=– when inside a link, to prevent the brackets from messing with it.
